Foreclosure Prevention: Obama’s Secret Weapon Could be Warren

Foreclosure Prevention

Foreclosure Prevention

Foreclosure prevention is very much on the agenda of the White House, and the post of director of the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection will be created tomorrow, a job that will have the housing crisis very much in focus.

“…tipped to head foreclosure prevention agency…”

Elizabeth Warren is tipped by many as the right person head the new agency. She is the favorite of labor unions, liberals and progressives, but there are others in the administration who feel otherwise.

“foreclosure prevention program”

Warren’s report of April 13 on the Treasury’s $75 billion foreclosure prevention program stated in part that “Treasury’s programs are not keeping pace with the foreclosure crisis. Treasury is still struggling to get its foreclosure programs off the ground as the crisis continues unabated.”

Warren is currently the chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel of the Troubled Assets Relief Program. She is seen by many as a champion for transparency and accountability. Others in the administration are kept in check by her force, according to some, among them Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner.

It has been noted by some, especially senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, that Warren was the first to raise the idea of such a commission, and she is still the best person for the job in his opinion.

“She is seen, across the breadth of America, as a champion of open, honest and responsive government,” said Sanders in a letter sent today to the president.

“…foreclosure prevention is perhaps the best hope…”

Perhaps the best hope for millions of homeowners facing bankruptcy and unable to pay their mortgages is foreclosure prevention. If a new agency can help, it will be welcomed.
