SPAIN — SunPower Corp. of San Jose, California, recently announced plans to construct a 10 megawatt solar power plant for the NaturEner Group on an area of 38 hectares near the village of Alange in the province of Badajoz in southwest Spain.

This is the fifth project that the two companies have undertaken together, suggesting that they work well together and they both benefit from the joint work they do.

“We are pleased to work with SunPower again and continue our development of renewable energy in the Spanish market,” said Rafael Sanchez-Castillo, CEO of NaturEner Group.

The site chosen for this project is in Spain’s largest province of Badajoz, part of the Autonomous Community of Extremadura. This is one of the hottest parts of Spain with a lot of annual sunshine. Unlike Extremadura’s other province of Cáceres, Badajoz is low-lying and usually get more sunshine on average.

Extremadura is one of the poorer regions of Spain, and a large project of this size will likely mean the possibility of local work. This will certainly be welcomed in the current economic climate.

“NaturEner is a leader in renewable energy development, and SunPower’s long-standing partnership with them is a clear testament to our ability to consistently deliver the highest quality power plants quickly and cost efficiently,” said Vice President of SunPower, Gian Maria Ferrero.

Spain is becoming a leader in Europe for renewable energy. They are well advanced in wind power technology and obviously solar power too.
